So I've been in Nashville a little over a month.
And I truly love the city.
It's just a totally different vibe than Birmingham.
Not better per-se, just different.
To me, Birmingham isn't quite a 'big city', it never held that vibe for me. But it isn't a small town either. For me, Birmingham was always a very 'homey' city with great nooks and niche's such as Homewood and Mt. Brook. It's a great place to raise a family, offers some unique flavors and has it's own character but again, in no way is it a 'big city'.
Nashville on the other hand exudes a 'big city' vibe to me but with charm. It's not cold or harsh as some big cities have been characterized as having. It's unique in that it's southern through and through but offers diversity and depth lacking in most southern cities struggling for an identity outside the same ole same ole 'southern charm" tag line. (clears throat... my opinion of course...)
Since Im new to this 'charming big city' I decided it would be fun to highlight my experiences as I familiarize myself with my new home.
I thought this would offer a newcomers perspective to a city loved by so many.
Lets begin, shall we?
The first local restaurant experience I had in Nashville was when I was house hunting before I had even packed and moved my belongs this way permanently.
I was strapped with my notebook filled with Craigslist potential homes and was making my way all over the city with my dear friend Kammie.
Mind you, it was pouring down rain, I was (and am still, after a month) completely lost and then hunger struck.
We were in a little up and coming neighborhood on the West side of Nashville called Sylvan Park. Lost, I'll admit, but starving, we happened upon a park and a street corner with shops and restaurants.
We pulled the car into the first parking lot we saw and we got lucky because it just so happened to be:
The Local Taco.
Located at:
The Local Taco offers it's name sake in cuisine: Tacos.
Delicious and fresh one's at that!
I had the southern fried chicken taco which was exactly what you'd expect, it didn't disappoint with it's classic ingredients and texmex twist. But my favorite was the buffalo chicken taco. Definitely spicy but again, with a southern twist added in with the buffalo sauce.
For my first casual dining experience in Nashville, I feel I did all right. I would definitely suggest The Local Taco for a quick stop if you're visiting the city and need a fresh, easy lunch option.
Stay tuned for more Sights and Sounds as I continue to explore this new city of mine.

Sylvan Park is such a fun neighborhood. I swear, I got lost every time I drove over there, though!
ReplyDeleteNashville is by far one of my favorite cities, and I can't wait for you to write about more local findings for me to try out!
ReplyDeleteFried chicken taco, that sounds delish! I love Nashville, it's one of my favorite cities and we visit about twice a year.
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't tried it yet, you should check out the Garden Brunch Cafe. They the most amazing banana foster pancakes and some fabulous benedicts, too (germantown west benny). We discovered it a few trips ago and go everytime we're there now.
Have you been to San Antonio Taco Company? aka SATCO. I don't know how popular it is to anybody else, but I love it! I grew up here in Nashville though, so I have been going there my whole life.
