Drunk Sailor

(image via pintrest)

I just went to lunch.
And after looking through my mail and trying to get my life in some sort of order,
I have put myself on a SERIOUS spending freeze.
Sometimes I spend money like I'm a drunk sailor or something.
And I know that I have had to spend more money lately because of my house disaster.
And not having a kitchen has forced me to eat out for practically every meal
which is hard on the wallet too.
But I just feel like once I start to get one area of my life in order,
another area blows up throwing me off balance yet again.

Before this whole kitchen thing
I was really getting on the swing of changing my eating pattern to a more vegan fare.
I had settled into my new house.
I had the bill cycle in order
and had my budget all worked out after having it get out of whack when I moved.
And I had a lovely amount put away in my savings account.

Then the damn kitchen fell apart and with it, my house, budget and eating habits, along with a depletion in my savings.
I am just a hot mess over here.

So since I'm nearing the end (hopefully) of the repairs. I am hoping to get back to normal.
And in the meantime I have put myself on a strict NO SPENDING moratorium.
Here are my rules:

- NO SPENDING on anything other than groceries and necessary toiletries.

- $20 of 'free money' per week to spend on whatever I want,, i.e. cocktails, dinner out, books, movies, music... and each week I will take that $20 out in cash and leave my debit card at home.

- The ONLY exception to this rule is a bathing suit, shorts and concert tickets. I really need a new Bsuit and shorts for the summer and if I find something that is reasonable I can get it. And I am a concert junky. If good tickets to a show I really want to see come available then I can buy them.

By doing this I am hoping to cut out the frivolous spending that eats away at my pay check and hopefully start to build back up my savings that got used for repairs to the kitchen.
And hopefully it will help me reevaluate the things I have to have, Want to save for, and Dont need really at all.

God help me. :/

  1. I cut myself off for shopping for the month of March and I did it and I'm tring to continue for the month of April. Honestly I keep finding new stuff in my closet. But dude it's still SO hard!

  2. I am there with you girl. I haven't really shopped at all since Christmas. Trying to apply Dave ramsey savings and debt snowball principles. Email me and we can keep one another motivated.

  3. Another alternative is to sell some of the stuff you're not using. I sold a ton of purses and household items on ebay and craigslist. It is shocking how much money we waste on things we never use or only use once. Not only will you put cash in your pocket, but you'll also clean out your closet and drawers.
