I need help.
As you know, from a previous post, I have bought a home.
And after talking with my mom.
Who really gets into home decorating.
She kindly informed me it was time to step it up decor wise.
I am the queen of buying crap.
Well maybe not crap exactly
but I just buy things for my home that I like,
not worrying about if it really goes with anything else in my house.
Are any of you all like this?
So anyways.
I love interior design.
I could look at nice rooms in magazines all day long.
But how do I translate those pretty pictures to my new home?
I have no clue where to start.
Do I pick paint colors first?
Or say I find this spectacular lamp that I just have to have, do I buy that then decorate around it?
I mean what do you do?
How do you, I-have-a-really-cute-put-together-house, people do it?
is coming down the first weekend or so in November to help.
She has a REALLY cute put together house.
So I know she has some tricks up her sleeve.
(you should go visit her blog and beg her to show you cute pics of her house. It is worth begging)
But really how do you even begin this process?
Peace,

I'm the worst at collecting random things, and while beautiful separate, they don't exactly translated well all together. I would find a piece or two (or even an idea!) that inspires you and built around it :)
ReplyDeleteHey there sounds like you're a little overwhelmed! Don't fret. There are tons of ideas out there and plenty of people in your life I'm sure have an opinion of what you should do, in the end though you need to make a decision for you. Make sure you pick for your interests and what you also think will continue to last for years to come. You should check out redticking.com for a little inspiration maybe! Hope it all works out. Keep the updates coming!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on buying your first home!! Very exciting. Decorating is certainly a work in progress, it's not something you can do instantly, start with your favorite colors and styles and work from there, good luck!
ReplyDeleteI would suggest an inspiration piece for each room. A lamp, pillow, picture- whatev. Then you can always reference back to that piece or build on it.
ReplyDeleteI started with paint colors. I walked into each room and though "how do I want to feel here?". I also went with a natural theme. My dining room is the color of red brick, living room is sage green, another downstairs room is sun yellow, and my kitchen is clay. Then I bought a bunch of fun accent colors to bring life into those rooms :)
