Quick Question

Why do I have a mental block when it comes to running 4 miles?
I have tried twice this week to tackle 4.
But my brain gets in the way and I end up quitting.
How do I get past my mental block and hype?

Help?...

Peace,

  1. You have to focus on something other than "how many miles you've ran/still have to run". Map out what you're going to think about while you're running. That's what I did when I ran 26.2...I literally wrote down a different topic to think about for each and every mile and memorized it. Plus, having good tunes on your ipod will help :)

  2. I have the same problem! I get to 3 miles and then I can't continue for some reason...Maybe I just need to build up my endurance? Or maybe I just get bored? Who knows, but I'm right there with ya!

  3. I struggle with this past the 3 mile mark. I feel like I've had a good enough workout and then my mind gives up on me.

What has worked for me in the past is to have a friend who is a runner take me for a run where I don't know the mileage or the track.

Also, running 2 miles out, and then having to return is another way that works for me to up my mileage.

Best of luck - I know it's not easy, and I should take my own advice and head out for a run, but I think I'm going to head out for sushi and drinks - Hahah

  4. This may sound cliche, but I know it helps me when I don't think of the mileage cumulatively but I just say to myself, "Hey self, let's go run a mile." And after the first mile is done I hit reset and do it all over again b/c 4, 12, 26, miles can seem daunting, but anybody can run just 1 mile, right (it's still one 1 mile, just 4 times over)?!
