Thoughts?

Ok
I have a question for y'all.
Have any of you ever done this:

The Master Cleanse?

I am seriously considering it.
Or am I crazy?

I mean I don't like pain.
And this seems kinda painful.
You have to drink lemon juice, syrup and cayenne pepper?
I guess you get used to it after the first 6 cups on your first day?

I'm still mulling it over.

Peace,

  1. no. and i think cleanses are just like a fad diet. i was just reading about the yesterday. basically your body cleans itself and you don't need to detox or anything. i think if you just try to drink more water, like a lot, that it will flush your kidneys etc. i'll try to find the article i was reading and send it to you.

  2. I wouldn't be able to do it. I've heard it can jump start weight loss though. People who do it and then don't diet/exercise after do gain the weight right back. My boyfriend jump started his diet with the cabbage soup diet, you could probably google it, it really helped him lose some weight initially, and then he kept loosing it more slowly with dieting. Just a thought.

  4. the kind you make yourself tastes much better than the premade varieties. Some are way too spicy or way too sweet. A friend of mine did it and blogged about it http://mcmullenfarm.blogspot.com/2009/05/master-cleanse.html

I am sure she would answer any questions you might have. I have always quit after 7 days. I break down when I cook for CJ and end up taking a bite of something or pop a beer and swig half of it before I remember "oh snap! I'm supposed to be cleansing!"

I definitely believe in cleansing and would love to stick to the full course of the cleanse sometime soon.

I can tell you that you start to smell and taste things better than ever. My skin breaks out when I detox and then it gets so clear. I know a few people who will do the master cleanse but allow themselves watermelon, oranges or larabars/Kind bars when they feel like giving up. Maybe I'll try doing it that way bc I think cleansing would be a great way to target my stubborn tummy pooch!

also, generally speaking, that smooth move tea is great.

  5. Caroline,
I'd be hesitant of the master cleanse program, I'm not sure if you get all your nourishment through it. I did do the "Clean Program" though. It changed my life. I did it in December and lost 6 pounds in 16 days and felt healthier than I ever have. I've kept the weight off and can't wait to do it again. It was written by a doctor. Dr. Alejandro Junger and is incredible. You don't deprive your body of anything and there is a very interactive online support community at cleanprogram.com There's a book too which I bought at Barnes and Noble beforehand. You can either buy his kit online or do it yourself by buying fresh produce from the grocery store. I did it on my own to save money and have heard the taste is better on this route too. Any questions on it let me know, I'd love to help. I'll be doing it again in May.

  6. I think you should just eat clean rather than buying into the whole Master Cleanse thing. Make it a lifestyle change. I really love the saying, "Eat real food."

There is tons of information out there about eating clean. Read up. Do it naturally. You'll feel much better.

  7. I'd say no. One of my good friends ended up in the hospital after doing the master cleanse. She was OK. Just really dehydrated, but it turned into a 2 day hospital stay because her heart rate was really erratic and the doctors would not release her.

I know others that have done it and been fine, but overall I don't see it as being great for your body.

  9. First time commenting, and I feel a little weird that my first comment involves something so, I don't know personal? However I see the smooth move in the picture and I don't know if it is involved in the cleanse, but be careful with that stuff. I took it once and I don't think I have ever been so miserable in my entire life. It does it's job a little too well if ya know what I mean.

  10. Hey Caroline,
I did the Master Cleanse about 2 years ago and it definitely shed pounds. But if you are expecting to keep the weight off, you are mistaken. No matter if you start to eat healthy or not, you will gain weight back. The "lemonade" isn't terrible, but you definitely don't want to drink it after a few days. I actually completed all 10 days, but it was so hard watching other people eat, or even seeing food commercials on TV. The master cleanse gets mixed reviews. Some love it and then some hate it, it just depends on who you ask. But if you are just trying to jump start a "diet" program, give up easy things like soda, sugar and less bread and definitely drink more water.

Feel free to ask me any question about the program.

  11. I have done it for 9 days with no side effects. It was for cleansing, not weight loss but did drop a couple of pounds in the process. I found that it made me very grouchy! So warn anyone that you spend time with in advance! ;) I like utilizing it to get started. After the cleanse, I have not put anything bad in my temple! I keep thinking I got rid of the bad and need to keep it that way! Best of luck!!
