A lot of you have been asking how my Vegetarian resolution has been going.
it has been really hard.
I am not going to lie,
I have failed on more than one occasion.
But I am still so very conscious of what is going in my body now more than ever.
I talked about how I watched Food Inc.
It really opened my eyes.
I used to be quite political if you can imagine :)
And one of the things I am quite sure of is that small business is the way to go.
Large corporations should not have their hand, or rather, the monopoly on anything from our food to our health care.
It is our life. We have the choice in what we choose to eat. We don't have to have bad choices shoved down our throats. It is our job to be informed about where our food really comes from. How it affects the animals involved, the workers involved and our bodies that are involved.
It is your choice to be informed.
Here are some of the choices I am making.
I try to buy only fruits and vegetables from a Whole Foods or other organic market or from the super market as long as it is marked as organic.
Why?
Because most of our fruits and vegetables are filled with pesticides and hormones that warp vegetable and fruits into veggies and fruits that aren't even real anymore.
I try to stay away from meat other than fish.
I have to admit,
I fail at this on occasion. But at least I am conscious of where I want my meat to come from and how much I consume.
America's obsession with meat is strange and unhealthy.
Try to go without meat in a meal at least 2 times a week.
once you get the swing of that try going more days sans meat.
Also if you eat meat.
KNOW WHERE IT COMES FROM!
Labels can be tricky and deceiving.
Do some research before you head to the grocery.
All I did was google 'free range meat' with my area code and supermarkets, farmers markets and organic markets popped up. Easy Peasy!
Again Whole Foods and other organic superstores offer free range meat. But you can also search for local farmers in your area that offer this meat.
(I have placed a link below to a website where you can search for organic food and meat in your area.)
I take an abundance of vitamins.
probably too many.
Every day I drink this:

And take these:

And at night I take a multivitamin.
it has been really hard.
I am not going to lie,
I have failed on more than one occasion.
But I am still so very conscious of what is going in my body now more than ever.

Every day I drink this:

And take these:

And at night I take a multivitamin.
I also drink a SHIZ ton of water.
(My trusty green water bottle goes with me everywhere.)
I drink no sodas or coffee other than at a restaraunt or a movie on occasion and then it is considered a treat.
I do not drink them with every meal
and I definitely dont drink them randomly throughout the day.
It is water for me.
I am no saint though.
I LOVE junk food.
I mean just the other night I slipped up big time and went through the Sonic drive through!
It has been so hard limiting my intake of crap.
But I am getting better at it.
I try not to keep mass produced food in my pantry and only splurge when I eat out or go to the movies (how do you pass up pop corn?)
I can not go without chocolate.
I used to get after the cookie and cake isle in the super market.
But that mass produced stuff is even worse than the chemically mutated fruits and veggies we are offered.
So to get my chocolate fix whenever I go grocery shopping I by a giant Hershey Dark chocolate bar and will eat 1 or 2 pieces after a meal.
I literally have to have chocolate with every meal.
I also dont drink a lot of alcohol. I dont like alcohol much anyways but I do like a beer every now and then but I only have them when I am out at a bar or at a party.
You have to indulge sometimes.
What I eat on a normal day:
Breakfast:
Oatmeal or some sort of fruit or breakfast bar.
I mix my green superfood with milk and then take down my juice plus for the day.
And on weekends I love omlets!
Lunch:
I usually eat a sandwich.
Either grilled cheese or peanut butter and jelly.
Or I will have a salad with feta cheese and craisins. Delicious!
Dinner:
Again I may have a sandwich or I may cook some pasta with some sort of sauce and some veggies. I am trying to cook more... it is slow going.
It is simpler being a single lady I admit.
But there are days that I go out to a restaraunt with friends and then totally goof and I think I am more obsessed with my intake of food than most people, you dont have to think about it so much or as much as I do! It is ok to mess up and not get it right all the time or most of the time. Just start small and to start just begin to be conscious of where your food comes from!
I know a lot of people complain about the exspense of organic food and free range meat. But as Food Inc. basically states, We will have to pay for our cheap food obsession one way or the other. We can stop now, open our eyes, and make better clean choices
Or continue eating fake food and eventually pay with our health, medical bills, and lives.
Again it is a choice.

I take juice plus too! And although I don't think I'm ready for vegetarianism, that's great that you're keeping it up.
Fantastic post! I slip up with my healthy eating too along the way. It's just a daily thing. Keep on going...
WHAT A GREAT POST!! I watched Food, Inc last night & went today and bought free range chicken. I just can't .. it was such an eye opener for me!!
PS ~ Lovin' the TB Mafia pic in the background! Can't wait to take an updated one!!
I LOVED this post! Where do you buy the juice plus vitamins? I need those! I think organic food is 100% worth it.
Love this post! I always tell my friends the secret to great skin starts with the food you eat. Eating organic and healthier foods is one of the best thing I have ever done. Keep it up!!
Great Post. I'm fortunate to have a year round Green Farmer's Market near my home. I have developed relationships with my farmers and know where my chicken, eggs, veggies, fruit and more come from. I feel better and like knowing more about what I put into my body.
I am very health conscious so this post appeals to me! I have yet to see Food Inc I keep meaning to bump it to the top of netflix queue but I do hear that it is pretty eye opening.
It is very exciting for me (a vegan) to see other people become conscious of their food. Please keep doing research - I promise once you do you won't have any "slip-ups" and eat meat or any other animal products. One great book is "Slaughterhouse" by Gail Eisnitz and another is "Skinny Bitches".
So many people turn their brains off when they get too far into the meat and animal products industry. It is so far reaching and powerful that it seems like nothing can stop the cruelty and absolute disgusting-ness of what goes into our foods.
Do you know that even in free-range meats, USDA officials only pull out cuts of meat when there is a tumor bigger than 2 inches, or an absess larger than 1 inch? Anything smaller than that and it can go through. Ground meat is anyone's game (even free range) - feces, bits of metal and plastic, insects, parts of mice/rats that fall into the grinder, human waste, etc. What they do pull out is put into dog food, hot dogs, etc.
It's terrifying.
It's SO GREAT that you're trying vegetarianism! Keep it up. There is NOTHING better for your body than a diet of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and all natural stuff that God has given us. Americans ARE strangly obsessed with having meat constantly and our bodies are just not made for it.
A great website for recipes is vegweb.com. They have a recipe for an AWESOME chocolate cake on there. You don't have to give up your comfort foods, you just have to tweak them.
Check out my blog - I've been MIA for the past 4 weeks because of work, but things have slowed down now and I will be posting recipes and reviews of vegan beauty products as I try them. I have been a vegan since before Christmas and have lost 20 lbs, have a glowing complexion, and a clear conscience!

I watched Food, Inc. a few weeks ago and it reaffirmed my intent to eat better. Between that movie and the book Skinny Bitch, I'm making more organic and healthy choices. I'm trying to cut out meat, but it's hard. I'm getting there slowly but surely! Way to go and keep it up!
I couldn't agree with you more. If you have money for new shoes, you have money to eat with a conscience!
Great, great post!!! I have been thinking about all of these issues so much recently! I want to become more informed and educated about what I am putting into my body, but I am overwhelmed with all of the info. out there. Thanks for this insight.
Love this. Absolutely fantastic post! I too made the change in 2010 to eat cleaner and more consciously. This is my first week 100% committed to it and I also tried the grass for the first time-- so wonderful! Thanks for sharing.
