I have really had my half-marathon goal on my mind as of late.
It is a goal and dream of mine to not only run a 1/2 but love running.
I am not there yet.
And it is crunch time for the Mercedes Marathon that I had planned on doing.
So I have decided to postpone my 1/2 running date.
The holidays + Moving + lack of a running partner or group = I am not going to be ready to run come February 14th.
I was disappointed in myself at first. But then I realized I really do have a lot going on and I really didn't plan what would help and boost me forward very well in starting out on this venture.
I need time.
I need a group or a committed partner to run with me.
I think I am going to run the Music City half in April. This way I can start fresh, shed the guilt.
I am upset with myself for not having stuck with my goal for the Mercedes. But I do still plan on training and running the 3 mile relay for the marathon.
Little goals are going to be key to getting me to the big one.
So in changing the plan, I really want to get a group together to train for the Music City Marathon. If you are in the Birmingham area and are interested in training or know of anyone who might be, shoot me a comment.
here is the link to the Music City Marathon website.

Peace,

i talked with jeremy about this last night, and he seemed excited. i think we're going to try our best to train for this as well... i wasn't 100% sure that we could do it this year, but why not? going to see if a couple other of our friends want to train for it too...
ReplyDeleteI completely hear you! I am not a runner myself and made a goal last year to run the St. Jude 1/2 marathon in Memphis last December. It was the longest 11 months struggle of my life and required hella dedication and pushing. I didn't have a running partner either so I ended up getting a trainer, expensive but worth it to run the long runs w. me. Check to see if your local running store(s) have fun runs that are free. A store here has them 2x week and its a group of people, they're free, and they run in small groups at all different paces, 7 minute miles to 13 minute miles. It really helped me.
ReplyDeleteAnd if it makes you feel any better, I never learned to like running, to this day I still hate it. So from one running hater to another, you can do it! Good luck!
I would SO love to become a runner. I wish I was one of those people who just had to go running or they felt awful. I've tried to get into it so many times and just never have! Good on you for putting a half marathon for inspiration.
ReplyDeleteIf you can't commit to it now, it's better to postpone it. Its rather than trying to cram in training and not really being prepared and having an awful race, then you really will never love running!
ReplyDeleteI hear the Music City 1/2 is great! Bands on every corner....would be more fun than Mercedes.
