(obviously I am not Alicia Silverstone but I didn't know how to mark out her name on picassa, anyone know how?)

Ok so I've decided to do something a little crazy.
I'm going vegetarian.
Or I am at least going to try.
Why, you might be asking?
Well... To cut a long story short, A conversation went down over the break about how awful some of the things that we put in our bodies really are.
And then,
I watched an awful movie, Food Inc., which disgusted me and confirmed the above conversation.
Plus, Those poor animals.

On top of going meat free, I am trying to eat as organic and simple as possible. By simple, I mean, non-processed and the most organic fruit and veggies I can find.

The only thing that I can't justify cutting out is fish, I mean, Jesus was a fisherman, right?

Are any of you meat free?
Any good recipes or tips?

Interested?

  1. I love Amy's frozen foods. They are vegetarian and organic and everything I've tried has been SO good!

  2. so eating fish will actually make you a pescatarian, not a vegetarian. (i only warn you about this so the pure vegetarians don't come knocking on your door.)

it's easy to be meat-free. and amy's does have some great options. also check out morningstar farms and boca. oh, and gardenburger. all soy-based "meat" products. and yummy too.

you can do it! you'll be amazed at how much healthier you'll feel too...

  3. You are a strong woman! I could never give up meat and I've read books and seen pictures of the treatment of animals, and although I don't agree with it, I still can't give it up. You should definitely check out the book "Skinny Bitch", it has all kinds of information about food, recipes, and really long lists of great organic and natural food that they have rated. Plus it's really hilariously written. Good luck!

  5. Haven't seen that one yet, but I could practically be vegetarian. We're very organic in our house and I rarely, rarely cook meat, unless it's off my in-laws farm (we ship lots of canned fruits, veggies and yes, fresh meat annually). But I know where it comes from. Of course, I'm not by-the-book. you've got it right about fish.

  6. It's great you are cutting out meats! I did it a few yeas ago and believe me I feel a lot healthier. I recommend start slow, cut red meats first and them move to chicken, turkey etc. You will get used to it very fast and you will feel a lot better. Good luck and keep us posted!

  8. I went vegetarian 3 years ago starting New Years Day. I also still ate fish. I lasted 3 1/2 months. I just didn't feel the same, no matter how much non-meat protein I ate, I just never felt like I had as much energy as I used to, especially when I worked out a lot.

But, I'm sure if you're very aware of your protein intake you should be able to do it!

    Good luck!

  9. I went veggie last year. It lasted about 4 months, and my willpower broke! I will honestly say that I had so much more energy during those months, and never felt bloated! Perhaps I will attempt again.

  10. Have you seen "Earthlings" yet...narrated by Joaquin Phoenix? Omg...one of the most amazing, important, well-done, and heartbreaking films out there. I believe you can rent it via Netflix, but not Blockbuster.

Btw, I haven't eaten meet in about 17 years now, and don't really miss it. :)
