Projects

So with my honesty list I forgot to tag 10 people. That will have to come later.

Over the weekend I was extremely productive surprisingly. First there was the 8 am Saturday vet appointment. Then a ton of errands, followed by the uphill crawl I mentioned below and then I helped my friends unpack and paint at their new home. All that unpacking and decorating got me itching for a renovation so I decided to take on a head board. I have been in need of a headboard ever since I moved out of the dorm but I was waiting on the perfect iron bed to pop up, it hasn't.

I live in an old historic home in Homewood. So needless to say it is filled with some charm and love (if you will) and we have an old shed out back that is also filled with some charming memorabilia from it's past tenants (some might call this junk). Every time I take out the trash, I always eye this old door that is in the shed. And Sunday I decided it would be a perfect headboard.

I wish I would have taken pictures of the process of transforming the door but I was hard at work so all I have is the finishing product for you to look at:

It was the simplest project, really. All you need is a door. a paint chipper and a sander.

Obviously since this door had been in the shed for some time the old paint was already chipping off so I bought a paint-chipper-thingy at Lowe's and started picking off as much of the loose paint as possible.

After the paint chipping, I plugged in my electric sander and went town sanding it down. I didn't really worry about sanding it smooth because I wanted a sort of shabby chic look (and it would have taken FOR-EV-ER).

After sanding I hauled the door to the front of my house where the hose is hooked up and sprayed it down and then cleaned it with an SOS Brillo pad (The SOS pads are handy because they have soap in them and foam up when scrubbing).

After washing it thoroughly I waited for it to dry while I headed back to Lowe's for a couple of paint samples.

After picking my paint color i actually got lucky because I had enough paint in that sample can to cover the whole door!

While the paint dried I pulled some cinder blocks from the back yard out front and scrubbed them down and then let then dry.

Once everything dried I situated the cinder blocks behind my bed and then propped the door on top of those and pushed my head board against the door.

And Viola... A new headboard.
